University Medical Centre Utrecht (UMCU) is an academic hospital affiliated to Utrecht University, the Netherlands. UMCU is one of the top-ranked academic medical centres in Europe. With approximately 12,000 employees, the UMCU is one of the largest public health care institutions in the Netherlands and the largest employer in the region. There are several strategic programmes in which we excel in healthcare, research and training, one of which is Julius Global Health. This is UMCU\u2019s global health initiative, and it has the twofold aim to (1) conduct high-impact (clinical) epidemiological and public health research that generates evidence that contributes to better individual and public health, and (2) to educate new generations of researchers and health care professionals across the globe. Our global health research activities focus on Asia, Oceania and Africa, and draw on our expertise in (clinical) epidemiology in the areas of circulatory health, cancer, infectious disease, reproductive and child health, as well as environmental health. Educational activities draw on the epidemiological expertise of Julius Center and have expanded over the years to include courses in global health and capacity training in international health sciences, both in Utrecht and for a global audience through the support of the e- learning platform in Elevate Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UMC’s role in the CATA-Earth Project<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

UMCU brings to CATA-Earth their expertise in healthcare sustainability, a major theme that has been a focus at the organisation. More important than ever in the time of climate crisis, UMCU places the interdisciplinary theme of planetary health as a priority to tackle intersecting global challenges on climate change, increasing inequality, poverty, conflicts, breaches of human rights and citizens\u2019 concerns about identity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As lead beneficiary and co-lead of WP5 Project Management, UMCU will perform project monitoring, management, administration and reporting of the project to agreed standards of the project and will ensure successful delivery of project deliverables, within budget and scheduled timescales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, UMCU contributes to CATA-Earth by leading WP2 Community-driven transformational PH course development & Curriculum implementation and Evaluation. Here, UMCU will facilitate in: development of a HEI planetary health course that contains context-specific, community-driven content; strengthening community ties and harness indigenous knowledge in co-creating the planetary health course; documenting solutions to planetary health problems in the field; implementing Community-Driven, Transformational Planetary Health Education Framework & Toolkit and to evaluate results and gather feedback; sharing results with partners to ensure improved delivery of courses; delivering courses in line with WP1 toolkit and WP2 adapted to local socio-economic needs; and delivering innovative community-driven curricula for Planetary Health education in partner third countries.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
