About the Beneficiary

Universitas Indonesia (UI)

Universitas Indonesia (UI) is a prestigious higher education institution in Indonesia, renowned for its excellence in academic and research endeavors. Established in 1849, it is among the oldest and most respected universities in the country. UI offers a diverse range of programs across its 17 faculties. Its academic endeavors are organized into interdisciplinary science clusters: health science clusters, science and technology clusters, and social and humanities clusters, which align with its goal to address complex societal challenges through research, teaching, and community engagement.
UI’s role in the CATA-Earth Project
Contribution of UI in the CATA-Earth project is led by Indonesian Medical Education and Research Institute Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia (IMERI-FMUI). IMERI FMUI is a multidisciplinary center of excellence committed to advancing medical education, research, and public health services. It supports transformative initiatives in medical and health sciences through collaboration, innovation, and education. IMERI provides ample ‘community-catalyzing spaces’ for scientists and also prioritizes and supports convergent research collaborations with a flexible platform for convergence in biomedical sciences and medical education research to be instigated and nurtured.
UI and its commitment to innovation make it a key player in advancing the project’s goals. UI contributions in the CATA-Earth project focus on integrating medical research and education expertise into the project. With the expertise from the Center for e-Learning (CEL) and Medical Education Center (MedEC IMERI FMUI), the clusters in IMERI FMUI, UI co-facilitates the extensive process on instructional design of planetary health education competence, through conducting co-creation needs analyses, sharing best practices, and developing the planetary health education competency framework tailored to societal needs. Furthermore, IMERI’s extensive network of its research clusters, especially those researchers from Occupational and Environmental Health Cluster (OEHRC IMERI FMUI) contributes expertise in workplace and environmental health monitoring. This team supports the creation of learning tools, educational resources, and curricula aimed at fostering awareness and action in planetary health. The experts from Clinical Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Medicine Unit (CEEBM FMUI) ensures that these initiatives are evidence-driven and aligned with stakeholder needs. This collaboration enhances the project’s capacity to deliver innovative, community-driven planetary health education, particularly in climate-vulnerable regions across Asia. Additionally, IMERI and CEEBM team co-manage work packages 1 and 6 of the Cata-Earth project, with outcomes including a planetary health education competency framework and an elective course in planetary health education accessible to students across various academic disciplines at UI.
