CATA-Earth UI participated in the 10th International Conference and Exhibition (ICE) on IMERI, hosted by the Indonesian Medical Education and Research Institute (IMERI) of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia. As part of this international event, CATA-Earth contributed to Plenary Session 2: ‘Planetary Health Education for Sustainable Development’, held on Thursday, November 27, 2025.
The session brought together experts from Indonesia and abroad to discuss the essential role of education in strengthening planetary health and preparing future generations for the challenges of climate change, environmental degradation, and global health risks.
Topic 1: Integration of Planetary Health in Education
Speaker: Camilla Alay Llamas, MD, MPH from University Medical Center Utrecht, Netherlands
Dr. Camilla Alay Llamas highlighted the importance of embedding planetary health principles into medical and health professions education. She emphasized that integrating these concepts into the curriculum can empower learners to understand how environmental changes directly impact human health.
Topic 2: Planetary Health and Global Health Security: Future-Proofing Humanity in the Era of Climate Crisis
Speaker: Dr. Dicky Budiman, M.Sc.PH. from University of Griffith, Australia
Dr. Dicky Budiman addressed the urgent need for strong global health security in the face of climate change. His presentation highlighted strategies to “future-proof” humanity, including strengthening surveillance, improving resilience, and prioritizing cross-sector collaboration to protect vulnerable populations.
Topic 3: Planetary Health Education in Resource-Constrained Settings
Speaker: Prof. Dr. Diantha Soemantri, MMedEd, PhD from Universitas Indonesia
Prof. Diantha Soemantri discussed the realities and opportunities of implementing planetary health education in settings with limited resources. She emphasized the importance of context-based teaching approaches, innovative learning models, and institutional support to ensure that all regions—regardless of capacity—can integrate planetary health into their educational systems.
By bringing together multidisciplinary experts, the session emphasized the urgent need to reshape health education—preparing future healthcare professionals to address environmental challenges and promote planetary well-being.
The event also served as a platform to inspire institutions across Indonesia and globally to incorporate planetary health into their curricula and research agendas, ensuring a healthier and more resilient future for all.
