CATA-Earth UI successfully held the collaboration event with the 17th Jakarta Meeting on Medical Education (JAKMED) to promote planetary health within the field of medical and health professions education. As part of this partnership, this event invited the CATA-Earth Academic Teachers and Community Teachers to join the symposium session through an exclusive opportunity. This event was also opened to the general public who are interested in Planetary Health for free.
The Symposium Session was talking about “Introducing Planetary Health in Medical and Health Professions Education: Why and How?” with Carlos Faerron Guzmán from University of Maryland Baltimore, as speaker. Dr. Carlos Faerron Guzmán is an internationally recognized expert in planetary health, who serves as Senior Advisor Programs at Planetary Health Alliance. In his presentation, he explained about how environmental factors directly influence human health, emphasizing the urgent need to integrate planetary health concepts into the curriculum of medical and health professions education. He also discussed actionable strategies for educators to incorporate sustainability and planetary health frameworks into teaching and institutional practices.
This collaboration marked an important step toward building transformative health professions education. This event inspired academic teachers to rethink health professions education approaches and to adopt a more holistic perspective of medicine and health that includes the well-being of humans, communities, and the planet. This initiative reaffirmed JAKMED and CATA-Earth’s shared commitment to cultivating a new generation of healthcare leaders, who not only care for patients but also advocate for the health of the planet.
