Environmental pollution remains one of the greatest challenges to global public health. Among various environmental contaminants, Lead (Pb) continues to pose a significant threat because of its long-term effects on human health, especially for vulnerable populations. Women, especially those living or working in areas with potential lead contamination, play a crucial role in protecting not only themselves but also their families from the harmful impacts of lead exposure.

Regarding that issue, CATA-Earth UI collaborating with the Center for Sports and Exercise Studies of Universitas Indonesia (Sports Medicine UI), the Department of Community Medicine Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia, and Pure Earth Indonesia to hold this event entitled “PERISAI TIMBAL” (meaning ‘Perempuan Inisiatif Sadari Dampak Timbal’ in Indonesia) or ‘Women’s Initiative to Aware of Lead Impact’ in order to empower women workers to strengthen their capacity, prevent lead exposure, and protect the health of their families contribute to healthier communities and environments. This event (PERISAI TIMBAL) was held on April 13-14, 2026 at Annisa Dua Clinic, Citeureup, Bogor. This event was attended by 110 women workers from communities around Annisa Dua Clinic.
Throughout the two-day program, participants actively engaged in educational sessions, group discussions and interactive activities. The collaborative atmosphere fostered knowledge exchange between health professionals, researchers, and community members. The series of activities organized were:
• Registration and questionnaire assessment
• Education on climate change and increasing environmental pollution

Environmental pollution cannot be addressed by healthcare professionals alone. Sustainable solutions require active participation from communities, policymakers, researchers, and educational institutions. Programs such as ‘PERISAI TIMBAL’ illustrate how community empowerment serves as an essential strategy for preventing environmental health risks before they become major public health problems.
Through increased awareness, strengthened community capacity, and collaborative partnerships, PERISAI TIMBAL represents an important step toward protecting women, families, and future generations from the harmful effects of lead exposure while contributing to healthier communities and a healthier planet.
